Survival: How Birds Endure Winter with Phil Kyle presented by CCMNH
Most birds migrate to warmer weather to avoid the harsh reality of winter. However, some birds stay and face winter against many obstacles including maintaining an elevated body temperature to stay active, and perhaps the biggest challenge is finding food which is greatly reduced in winter when food acts as fuel for ensuring warmth and survival. Birds that stay for winter solve this survival problem by doing many things all at once: maximizing calories ingested while minimizing calories spent.
Phil has led birding trips for more than 20 years. Currently he volunteers at the Wellfleet Bay Audubon Sanctuary in the summers as a Naturalist/Educator and is a winter docent at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. He has presented programs to schools, assisted living institutions, museums, libraries, and garden clubs. Phil graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in Biology.
