Name: CCMNH: Whales 101
Date: August 14, 2023
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster is offering an after-hours series of programs designed to reach those in our community who are not able to attend programs during regular hours. On Mondays, July 10, and August 14, 2023, the Museum presents Whales 101 with CCMNH Volunteer, Gerry Beetham. *Doors open at 6pm / Lecture at 7pm.

Join Gerry for an introduction to whales seen around Cape Cod from the smallest harbor porpoise to the largest fin whale, the second largest animal to live on earth. Learn about their life cycles, behaviors, why they come to inhabit Cape waters, and why it would be unlikely to see a sperm whale made famous in Herman Melville’s classic novel, Moby Dick.

Gerry retired to Cape Cod eleven years ago and instantly fell in love with the marine life around the Cape, especially whales. Today, he volunteers as a whale docent at the Museum and is also a volunteer naturalist on a whale watch. He has designed programs that speak to adults and children alike, educating the public on the lives of the marine mammals that live in our waters.
