Drawn from Nature
BREWSTER, MA —The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents PBS' American Masters documentary film John James Audubon: Drawn from Nature Thursdays, April 6 & 27, 2023, at 11:30am.
John James Audubon's story is dramatic and surprising. He was not born in America but saw more of the North American continent than virtually anyone in his time. His growing apprehension about the destruction of nature became his prophesy. As an artist and naturalist his achievements were monumental. Audubon is famous for The Birds of America, an astonishing collection of 435 life-size portraits of every bird then known in the United States, which took him 18 years to complete.
John James Audubon: Drawn from Nature provides a large, clear window into the life on the American frontier; and how people on both sides of the Atlantic regarded nature. It creates a meaningful portrait of Art and Science in the first decades of the 19th century and a glimpse into the life and times of John James Audubon.
