Cape Cod Museum of Natural History Hosts the Cape Cod Chapter of the Massachusetts Archaeological Society

Anyone interested in archaeology or history is invited to participate by joining the Chapter or attending the program.

7:00pm Program: Sanctuary Live: Expedition to the Wreck of the Steamship Portland
 
Live broadcast from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary as they document the wreck of the paddle wheel Steamship Portland often labeled "the Titanic of New England."  
 
Scientists will be aboard the Research Vessel Connecticut using state-of-the-art imaging technology, including 360-degree cameras used for virtual reality filming, linking through the University of Rhode Island’s Inner Space Center.
 
The Portland was sunk during a storm in 1898 off the coast of Cape Ann, and is currently within the federally-protected waters of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. In 2005, the Portland was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
