Date: February 13, 2024
Time: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM EST
Event Description:

RACE to Be Human is a 45-minute documentary that explores racism and its impact on the mental health of children and adults. This film addresses the apprehension and confusion so many of us feel when it comes to talking about race and racism. It also shares how we can participate and build empathy through conversations at home, work, and school. RACE to Be Human includes strategies and tips to check ourselves and others while inspiring self-reflection so that as individuals we are more aware, and as communities, we can move forward more equitably.

The movie screening will be followed by a 30 min. panel discussion. We will have a moderator and an opportunity for the audience questions (written, which will then be collected for the moderator).

This program is offered in partnership with Sharing Kindness, Inc. and Independence House, Inc.

Sharing Kindness, Inc. Sharing Kindness was founded to address gaps in suicide awareness and grief support services, while promoting mental health education. Sharing Kindness is pleased to co-present this film that examines the impact of racism on mental health, acknowledging the increased risks, and particularly recently, the increased rates of suicide, in BIPOC youth.

Independence House, Inc. Independence House is Cape Cod's leading resource, counseling and advocacy center to address and prevent domestic and sexual violence. Independence House is pleased to co-present this film on race and racism, acknowledging the increased rates of domestic and sexual violence, particularly among the Black Transgender community.
