An Evening of Poetry at Brewster Ladies' Library

Join us for an evening of poetry in celebration of National Poetry Month! Poets Rose Auslander, Howie Good, and C. I. Marshall will each read some of their work and answer questions regarding their craft and inspiration.

Rose Auslander’s last name means “foreigner”—her grandparents all fled to the U.S. to escape pogrom in Ukraine, and her recent poems concern the ongoing war there. She is the author of the book Wild Water Child, winner of the 2016 Bass River Press Poetry Prize; chapbooks Folding Water, Hints, and The Dolphin in the Gowanus; and poems in the Berkeley Poetry Review, Baltimore Review, New American Writing, New Ohio Review, RHINO, Roanoke Review, Rumble Fish, Tinderbox, Tupelo Quarterly -- and upcoming in the Atlanta Review. She earned her MFA in Poetry at Warren Wilson and lives on Cape Cod.

Howie Good, Ph.D., professor emeritus of Digital Media and Journalism at SUNY New Paltz, is the author of many poetry collections, including most recently The Horses Were Beautiful from Grey Book Press and Swimming in Oblivion: New and Selected Poems from Redhawk Publications. He is the winner of the Lorien Poetry Prize from Thoughtcrime Press for The Loser’s Guide to Street Fighting and the Press Americana Prize for Poetry for Dangerous Acts Starring Unstable Elements. His next book, Heart-Shaped Hole, is due from Laughing Ronin Press this spring. He co-edits the journal Unlost, dedicated to found poetry.

C. I. Marshall received an MFA, Creative Writing, Poetry, from CA State University, Long Beach, B.A. Fine Arts, Mills College and was editor for ARTLIFE Magazine. Marshall’s poems have appeared in Verdad, Spillway, Packinghouse Review, Beyond the Lyric Moment: Poetry Inspired by Workshops with David St. John, Birmingham Poetry Review, The Broad River Review, Stone Quarterly Journal and Poems In The Waiting Room, UK. Marshall’s poem, “Myself As A Playboy Bunny” won the 2018 Verve International Poetry Festival Contest, Birmingham, UK and her poem “What I Love About Love’s” received Honorable Mention in the 2021 Steve Kowit Poetry Prize juried by Dorianne Laux. Marshall’s manuscript The Locksmith Journeys Into The Afterlife was co-winner of the 2022 Frosted Fire First Pamphlet Award, UK and was published by Frosted Fire in January 2023.
