As part of the Silver Science Speaker Series, The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents, So You Want to Know about Bees? with George Muhlebach on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 1pm. There are many reasons to become a beekeeper, but first, it’s important to know how to set up for beekeeping and have some background on the biology of honeybees. George will discuss organization and decision making in hives, as well as the importance of genetic diversity within your hive. Learn about propagation and swarming, and find out what it’s like to keep your own bees! George Muhlebach grew up in Switzerland and came to the USA over 50 years ago. He was always interested in bugs and got a degree in Natural Sciences. After working as a chemist, he retired to Barnstable with his wife. He took up beekeeping more than 40 years ago, and loves it because it’s a hobby that never ceases to challenge and surprise him.
