Lasagna Gardening is a no-till, reconstructive, all-natural way to create a garden area where there was only brush, gravel, rocks, or other inhospitable terrain. It can be adapted to any size plot, hillside, sun aspect, or use. It is accomplished by layering (like the layers in a lasagna) a variety of organic materials, like dried leaves, grass clippings, animal manure, compost, or shredded paper on top of a layer of cardboard. This turns into a nutritious organic mix that both kills the underlying weeds and provides a planting layer that can be used for grass, vegetables, perennials, or shrubs.
