Brewster Ladies' Library Grow Your Own Mushrooms

In this event, participants will learn about the mushroom growing process, make their own mushroom grow bags, and receive a collection of recipes and growing instructions. Oyster mushrooms are resilient and fast growing, so participants can grow them at any time of the year. Everyone who attends this program will have the ability to reach out to the instructor afterwards, as they continue their mushroom growing journey. For ages 16 and up. Space is limited. Registration required.

About the Instructor

As a gardener and science teacher, Heather Fisher was amazed when she grew her first mushroom kit. To her surprise, the little mushroom pins popped out and quickly grew into large, gilled petals. It was beautiful! When she went to sautée her harvest in a little butter and salt, she was delighted by the meaty texture and savory flavor. She went on to share in moments of awe and wonder with hundreds of students as she brought mushroom grow kits into the classroom. Over a few years, she became obsessed with mushroom growing and foraging. She realized she wanted to share this passion beyond the classroom and hopes you experience the same interest and intrigue as you spray and watch your own mushroom grow kit.
