SUMMARY:CCMNH: We are All Whalers
DESCRIPTION:The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History\n\npresents\n\nWe Are All Whalers \n\nThe Plight of Whales and Our Responsibility\n\nwith\n\nMichael J. Moore\, Vet.\, M.B.\, Ph. D.\n\n \n\n \n\nBREWSTER\, MA The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents We Are All Whalers\, The Plight of Whales and Our Responsibility\, with Michael J. Moore Saturday\, November 12\, 2022 at 1pm.\n\n \n\nThe image most of us have of whalers includes harpoons and intentional trauma. Yet eating commercially caught seafood leads to whales' entanglement and slow death in rope and nets\, and the global shipping routes that bring us readily available goods that often lead to death by collision. In Michael Moore's new book\, We Are All Whalers\, he explains that the goal is to help consumers understand what is going on\, and what they can do about the problem. \n\n \n\nJoin Michael as he explains that despite these challenges\, he has an optimistic view due to new technologies being developed for ropeless fishing and the acoustic tracking of whale migrations that make a dramatic difference. And he looks ahead with hope as our growing understanding of these extraordinary creatures fuels an ever-stronger drive for change.\n\nMichael Moore is a veterinary scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He has studied the effects of trauma from the shipping and fishing industries on North Atlantic right whale (NARW) survival and welfare. He is currently assessing NARW health using aerial photogrammetry and working with a group of stakeholders to establish buoyless 'On Demand' fishing systems as a viable tool to remove line from the water column. \n\n \n\n*After the program\, Mr. Moore will be signing copies of his book\, We Are All Whalers\, available for purchase in the Museum's Science Shop.\n\n*PLEASE CALL TO REGISTER FOR THIS PROGRAM ~ 508-896-3867\, EXT.133\n\n \n\n*Included with Museum Admission
