We'll begin in orbit\, with Kaija Saariaho's radiant meditation on the motion of the cosmos. Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 follows\, balancing dreamlike lyricism with flashes of wit. The journey culminates in Holst's The Planets\, a suite of vivid astrological portraits from martial thunder to shimmering mysticism. Ticketholders are invited to an entertaining and informative talk about the concert program given by trombonist and scholar George Scharr beginning one hour before the performance.
